Bullies are relentless, low self-esteem, individuals who prey on others just as a defense mechanism to hide their own insecurities. Unfortunately, bullies are everywhere. They go to the same schools we go to, play the same sports and are even online as well. Most of the times, bullies get away with what they do, which is exactly why they keep doing what they do. However, there are other times when bullies get to meet karma, disguised as a punch in the face. Personally, I live for those moments.
Austin Higley is a 16-year-old student attending a local high school in California. He fits the “bully victim” stereotype, skinny, reserved and minds his own business. Aside from that, Higley suffers from total blindness, meaning he can’t see from both eyes. Austin was ridiculed for this disability on a daily basis. A local bully was in charge of reminding him he was blind. Except, one day, the bully decided to take things one-step further and started physically abusing Austin.
The bully started punching Austin, who, as you already know, was not able to defend himself due to his disability. A group of students were gathered around the one sided brawl but they did nothing to help poor Austin, instead, they focused on filming the “next viral video.” Out of the blue, Cody Pines, a 17-year-old fellow student, charged into the action and punched the bully straight in the temple, knocking him out cold. Cody then went on to help Austin and make sure he was okay.
At the end of the day, violence should never be your first course of action but, in special occasions like these, I believe it is justified. Cody is a hero who saved Austin from getting battered by some angry bully who was just punching him for fun. Karma sure billed him heavy.
