It’s that time of year again where all the gorgeous Victoria’s Secret models grace our TV screens and make us wish that we hadn’t eaten that extra slice of cake. However, one of the biggest models in the world will noticeably be absent from the annual event.
Gigi Hadid has been banned from walking in this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show after the Chinese government decided to ban her visa application. According to reports, posts of Hadid surfaced online earlier in the year showing her making racist and derogatory remarks toward Asians. Despite profusely apologizing for her behavior, it was not enough to convince the Chinese officials.
Hadid announced the news that she would not be attending the fashion show, which is being held in Shanghai, on Twitter. This announcement comes just a few months after she confirmed her spot in the show on the same social media platform. Though Hadid walked for the first time in the fashion show last year, she stated that she was honored and excited to be gracing the catwalk once again.
Gigi Hadid is not the only star banned from entering the country. It was reported that superstar Katy Perry was going to be one of the fashion show’s musical acts, but allegedly her visa was denied also. This news comes on the heels of Perry’s performance in Taiwan where she wore an outfit that displayed a symbol that is usually seen as an insult to China.
Despite missing one of the most well-known models today, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will still host a long list of world-class women, from Lily Aldridge to Gigi’s sister Bella Hadid. With the loss of Katy Perry as a musical act, it has also been announced that Harry Styles will perform during the fashion show, as well as several other lesser known acts.
