Samuel, a pastor in British Columbia, has been charged with over a dozen counts of sexual abuse, 11 counts of touching some in a sexual manner while being in a position of power and a single count of inappropriately touching a minor under the age of 16.
Madelaine is looking at one charge of sexual abuse, sexually touching an individual while being an authority figure and threatening to cause bodily injury or death.
Allegedly, all of the sexual assault counts both individuals are facing pertain to inappropriate actions with multiple individuals who are all under the age of 16.
Members of the community have expressed their sadness at the details that are emerging by saying that parents trust pastors and their families to take care of their children and make sure that their best interests are looked after, but when that trust is broken then it can be very difficult for parents to accept that they were not able to protect their children from some of the horrors of the world.
Authorities believe that there are possibly many other victims who are too scared to step forward with their accusations.
The church where Samuel Emerson was a pastor, Cloverdale Christian Fellowship Church, has experienced a significant decrease in the number of members attending services since the news of the scandal broke.
Randy Emerson, Samuel’s father and a senior pastor at the church, claims that membership has dropped from around 250 people to 60 since the couple were arrested. He shares that he is very saddened by the allegations about his son and daughter-in-law and that he wants to work hard to rebuild the church’s trust with members of the community.
