Authorities were horrified when they responded to a call about a car on fire and discovered the burning body of a 16-year-old girl who had been shot several times.
Evalyce Santiago sustained two gunshot wounds to the head and one to her arm. Initially, police were confused about how the car wound up wrecked on a random person’s front yard, but they were quickly able to put the pieces of the puzzle together.
According to documents, Dominique Pittman has been arrested in connection with the murder of Santiago. He was allegedly the driver of the car on the night she was found dead and it is believed that he was the one who shot the teen girl.
Originally, Pittman told police that there was another guy in the car with them and that he had shot Santiago, which caused Pittman to crash the car. Police did not buy his story, so they continued to press Pittman for more information. He eventually crumbled under the pressure and told police that it was just him and Santiago in the car.
He revealed that the shooting had taken place after he and Santiago had gotten into an argument because the teenager told him that she was going to tell his long-time girlfriend that she and Pittman had been having sex. Pittman claims that they both struggled for the gun and that it accidentally went off, hitting Santiago three separate times.
He then told authorities that he purposefully crashed the car and set it alight in the hope that the body of Santiago would be burned beyond recognition and that the gun would be destroyed in the blaze. Unfortunately for Pittman, his plan did not work, and he now sits in his local jail awaiting trial for the murder of Evalyce Santiago. If convicted, he faces life behind bars.
