The body of 19-year-old Ashanti Billie was discovered behind a church over 300 miles away from her home in Virginia two weeks after she went missing. It has not yet been released how she died.
Meltony Billie, Ashanti’s dad, said in a statement that he just wants justice and closure for his daughter and that whoever caused her to die would not get away with what they have done.
The teen was last seen heading toward a sandwich store that she worked at on JEB Little Creek naval base. However, she never arrived at her job and she was absent from her college classes on the day she disappeared, too. Authorities discovered Ashanti’s phone in a dumpster several miles away from the military base and her abandoned car was located on a dirt road.
In a statement from the naval base, they claimed they are fully supporting the FBI in its investigation into Ashanti Billie’s disappearance and that they are thinking of her family at this horrific time in their life. Allegedly, the base has yet to contact the family directly.
Meltony Billie shared with reporters that Ashanti’s family is consoled by the notion that her body was discovered by officials near a church. They see it as a way for God to let them know that their loved one is now safe and going home.
The vanishing and subsequent death of Ashanti Billie is being treated as a homicide by authorities.
The family of the art college student is in the process of planning Ashanti’s funeral.
Ashanti’s mother, Brandy Billie, released a statement directly to the person who killed her daughter and referred to them as a coward who does not deserve to be alive themselves. She also expressed her sincere love and adoration for her daughter.
