Donald Cline, a 77 years old doctor, who is fertility practitioner from Indiana, used his sperm to fertilize dozens of patients without their consent, but due to an agreement, he would not spend one day in prison.
He is accused of being the father of at least eight children from various women who were his patients during the 1970s and 80s in the last century, but it is believed that there may be more than 20 children.
Cline, who is retired today, appeared in court on Thursday and confessed that he lied in the investigation. He is not accused of fertilizing the women with his sperm because there is no law for such a thing.
Doubts in the former fertility practitioner began in 2015 when in one of the children were discovered 8 DNA similarities after which he made a test in the genetic company “23AndMe”.
They took him to the Indianapolis Fertility Clinic where Cline worked.
Because then “live” semen was used instead of frozen specimens, the question was raised about who could have so many children nearby.
When the investigation began, Cline claimed that he had nothing to do with it, but DNA evidence proved the opposite. After the tests, Cline admitted that he used his sperm every time the donor was unavailable.
Prosecutors claim that Cline used his sperm more than 50 times.
The retired doctor admitted guilt, after which he was sentenced to one year in prison, but the verdict was suspended due to an agreement, which means that the doctor will not end up in prison. He has not only managed to escape the prison, but he will not receive probation too.
