33-year-old Musaab Afandi has been accused of posing as an Uber driver and taking his passengers to remote alleyways where he sexually abused them. The incidents took place between April of 2016 and early 2017. Prosecutors have been able to connect Afandi to three separate sexual assault incidents through DNA evidence. Afandi looking at charges pertaining to sexual abuse and kidnapping.
Musaab Afandi was first taken into custody in Chicago in March after two victims claimed that has been sexually assaulted outside a bar. Whilst being in jail without bail, investigators were able to gather DNA evidence that linked Afandi to the three other reported instances of abuse that until then had gone unsolved.
Attorney Jillian Anselmo revealed that Afandi had posed as an Uber driver and collected a woman in early April 2016. When she comprehended that the driver was not taking her to her desired location, she demanded that he pull the car over. Afandi stopped the car in a secluded are, held his passenger down, undressed her and then raped her.
In conjunction with the DNA evidence connecting Afandi to the instances of sexual abuse, investigators also discovered images and video footage on his cell phone of a different woman whom appeared to have been sexually attacked, too. Allegedly, she was entering a taxi cab when Afandi jumped into the back of the car with her and started trying to abuse her.
Allegedly, Afandi’s genetic material was also discovered in a rape kit that was overseen by a medical facility and given to a third victim, who was attacked while getting into a vehicle outside of a club.
All of the cases and charges against Afandi are pending, but he is being held in prison without bond.
