60-year-old Robert Kuefler has been charged with obstructing the scene where a death occurred when the dead bodies of his mother and brother were found in his home. Allegedly, Kuefler tried to stop people from visiting his residence for over a year in order to keep the death of his relatives a secret.
Because he did not notify the authorities that his twin brother and mother had both passed away from natural causes and he kept the decomposing bodies in his home, he now faces jail time.
In an attempt to stop other relatives and friends from asking any questions about the whereabouts of his brother and mother, Kuefler sent out cards during the holidays saying that his family members were still alive, but suffering from separate illnesses.
He also told other relatives that his mother did not want anyone to see her or visit the house. Kuefler even went as far as letting people who may try to contact his mom and brother that neither of them were able to hear the phone when it was ringing.
Authorities shared that Robert Kuefler revealed to them that his mother, Evelyn Kuefler, had passed away in the autumn of 2015 and that his brother, Richard Kuefler, had died just a few weeks prior.
He claims that he could not gather the strength and courage to bury them, so he just left them in the house to decay. He allegedly shifted his brother’s body around to different places in the house because it kept getting in the way.
According to reports, when police discovered the bodies, his mother’s body was basically just a skeleton and his brother’s body was practically mummified.
Robert Kuefler was arrested a year ago on an accusation of take advantage of a vulnerable individual, but reportedly the charges were dropped because there was not enough evidence to convict.
