I know Halloween is a couple of months away, but it doesn’t hurt to start planning early. If you are for all things spooky, then I suggest you start packing your bags and head for one of these destinations. Be warned, though, none of them is for the faint at heart.
1. Catacombs of Paris
“Arrete, c’est ici l’empire de la mort.” These are the words that you will find at the entrance. If you are not conversant with French, it might not even strike a nerve until you get inside. The Catacombs of Paris are underground ossuaries. The skulls and bones that are found inside belong to more than 6 million people. What better way to deal with overflowing cemeteries than to get a collection of bones?
2. Island of Dolls
Located in Mexico City, the island of dolls is believed to house the spirit of a little dead girl who drowned. Legend has it that the island’s caretaker witnessed the drowning and found her doll afterwards. Most of the dolls in the island now have some missing limbs and eyes missing from their sockets. It is said that the girl’s spirit lives in the dolls as they are sometime s heard whispering.
3. Suicide Forest
Although it is not the real name of the forest, the Aokigahara forest in Japan is commonly referred to as the suicide forest. This is because quite a huge number of people have committed suicide in the sme forest. It has got to an extent that there are signs at the entrance asking people to seek help in case they are feeling suicidal. Every year, volunteers as well as patrols search the forest for bodies as well as any belongings.
4. Hanging Coffins of Sagada
If you find coffins spooky, then do not even try to visit this place. The hanging coffins of Sagada in Philipines contains exactly that; hanging coffins. Rather than get buried, locals would carve out their own coffins and once they died, they would be put in the coffins that handg from the cliffs. I don’t know about you, but the idea of walking around some place with the reamins of people above me is not thrilling.
So, what do you think? Do you think you can stand a visit to any of these places?
